Thank You

Heading home from school.

The party is over, but not the excitement of having met the fundraising goal of paying school fees for 100 children in Mumbai, set by Sarah Petrescu and Anna Arneja, when they decided to throw an event for the Dirty Wall Project in Victoria, B.C. on October 5th. We can only estimate, but we’re sure we counted at least 200 people mixing and mingling in the beautiful space so generously donated by Latitude Geographics. They shopped our mini-market for photographs and stuff they couldn’t live without, many of the items donated by local businesses. Spicy Indian snacks from Kuku’s were washed down with cold, delicious, Hoyne beer, and bottles of donated wine. The conversation flowed while the guests enjoyed a dance performance by Bollywood Beats, and DJ Record C kept the tunes coming all night. An ongoing slide presentation of our years spent with the community in Saki Naka, Mumbai, put everyone right in the middle of the community and gave an opportunity to ask us questions. It was a fun and often poignant evening, put on with help from the selfless volunteers (Dani Houlistan and her bartending dream team, and Lisa Cowan who kept us all organised). All those who showed up for a social evening for social good, and those who couldn’t make it to the event and donated online, left us with $11,196.59 in donations. We will be able to pay the school fees for up to 100 children from Saki Naka. We couldn’t do it without you and we can’t thank you enough.
